Fish are jumping and the cotton is high…

19_July_LVMH_Coworth_DP_Sunset-1As the sunburn of summer sizzles and spits into the faded distance I look back at what high jinx and japes I have been up to. With my bucket, spade and a great deal of mirth ’twas off to the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. (Well, a bit further up than that).

19_Aug_links_House_Web_Ready8Links House in Dornoch is a sneaky piece of 5 star luxury hidden at the entrance to The Highlands. With breathtaking views around every corner I started to run out of adjectives. Forget your Swiss Alps, and your Norwegian Fjords we have the very best scenery here on our doorstep.

19_Aug_links_House_Web_Ready126Rich fabrics in every room. Nothing has been left to chance here. This is a really beautiful hotel. You know you are in the Highlands.

Getting ready for the Glorious 12th, the big sky and vast spaces make you feel very small and insignificant, but also connected with this place. If the idea of the North Coast 500 is not for you,  then maybe a trip to the wilds?

19_Aug_Cliveden_wr9919_aug_cg_beehive_drone-8-1.jpg

When the sun comes up, the wind is light and the grass has been cut. It can only mean one thing… get your camera out and stand really tall on your tippy toes. Chewton and Cliveden are timeless. I never really get past how beautiful these hotels are. The teams that work on the grounds are heroes in their own right. It’s an ongoing battle against the elements, golf swings and greenfly. We salute you.

Handmade bespoke tailoring, classic cars and good looking guys. Why on earth would I not want to shoot this? Richard George Tailoring is like being in a Kingsman movie. A very clever blend of modern gentleman meets classic style. I spent all day keeping a lookout for Colin Firth. I love this image so much that it hangs above my desk.

19_July_LVMH_Coworth_DP-13Dom Perignon, sweetie? Yep, that’ll do!! The very gorgeous people at LVMHasked me to shoot the new ‘Dining Under the Stars’ experience at Coworth Park. Luxury and prestige in the most beautiful setting. 19_july_lvmh_coworth_dp-16.jpg

Everyone of these lights is actually a firefly. They encouraged them to stay still with the promise of untold wealth and endless ‘DP’ Champagne. Needless to say they complied.

(For legal reasons, I must point out that at no point were any fireflies injured in the making of this image).

19_Aug_11CG_General-3Steak night at Hans Bar and Grillisn’t just any old steak night. Make sure you haven’t eaten for the 8 days leading up to it. Chef Adam Englandand his team always turn out the very coolest and tastiest food in Chelsea. I have tried several times this summer to eat vegetarian, then chef does this and the rest is history.

19_july_lakes_by_yoo_awr-36.jpgSo those unfeasibly talented guys at Lakes by Yoo have been producing the most outstanding private holiday villas in the Cotswolds. Designed by the likes of Philipe Starck, these imposing properties dot the man made lakes and offer swimming pools on the roof, glass floors to view your car collection and of course they all have their own private jetty so you can swim in the lake.

19_July_Lakes_by_Yoo_awr-5019_July_Lakes_by_Yoo_awr-43Nothing has been missed. Each house, while sharing the same DNA is distinct in its own individuality. Very design led, but stunningly beautiful. If you are looking for an escape, you could do so much worse.

Art work adorns most of the walls, the rest hold views across the lakes. Something that Gatsby himself would have loved.

Now is the Winter of our ‘Disco-Tent’

Never let it be said that I am predictable!! I promised you in early September that I would deliver my blog more regularly, and now here we are in December (How did that happen?) Regularly, every three months, whether you want it or not. But as the evenings draw in and the fires are lit, I tend to turn my attention to my stomach. How much can I store in it to keep me safe until the spring bulbs start to break through and the warm sun shines on my pasty face again?
The festive season is upon us and with that I have been working on my ‘Feast’ series with vigour.
Let the parties begin!

18_Oct_Lygon_Food_Rooms-1718_Sept_Chewton_Heritage_Menu-28As the summer drew to a close and the leaves started to change to rich combinations of raw umber and soft ochres, I found myself reflecting this in the colour palette I was choosing for my images. In November after being asked by the beautiful Calcot Collection of Hotels to capture the essence of their four very different properties, I found that the warm tones of firesides, natural timber and elegant fabrics were echoed throughout them all.

18_Nov_Calcot_Collection_Calcot-12

With its famous award winning spa, open fires, incredible food and spaces that make you want to park yourself for the rest of the weekend. If you haven’t visited then add it to your bucket-list now.

18_Nov_Calcot_Collection_Calcot-140People have played an important part in my work this season. I work with chefs a lot but they aren’t always that happy to have their smiling faces captured for posterity. But occasionally the planets line up, the light is right and BOOM! (and you know how much I love a BOOM!)

18_Nov_Calcot_Collection_Lord_Crewe-10The dark and blue of the kitchen and the warm orange glow of the hot lights. a plate of great food. What’s not to love?

18_July_11Cadogan_Gardens-50The bar at 11 Cadogan Gardens always catches the eye. It’s rich, dark, marble bar top and the gold ornate surrounds. The light catches through the windows in the afternoon and the whole room just glows.

18_Nov_Blue_Mountain-1Anyone who knows me, knows I can get quite passionate about things! (No, not you. I hear you all cry) When the new luxury coffee brand Midnight Blue outlined their plan to deliver the very best coffee to discerning clients with an air of theatre thrown in, I got a bit passionate about it. We shot in a coffee roaster’s in the dark of night with smoke and the heady aroma of great coffee.

18_Oct_Willow_Brockwell-318_Oct_Willow_Brockwell-34We love a bit of Willow Lifestyle. I am always extremely flattered when they ask me to photograph their projects. You know that they will always be beautifully detailed and ooze style and class. Plus, I always seem to spend the entire shoot laughing.

18_Sept_Bournemouth_Beach_Lodges-10518_Sept_Bournemouth_Beach_Lodges-718_Sept_Bournemouth_Beach_Lodges-7418_Sept_Bournemouth_Beach_Lodges-97Writing this today, I am sat in my flat with a blanket around my shoulders and two hoodies on. (Yep, too tight to put the heating on during the day!!) I’m looking at the rain beat against the window and looking through through the work I have shot over the last few months. As I came upon these images of the incredible Bournemouth Beach Lodges, the rain stopped and the sun came out. And everything was alright in the world. Just thought I would share the love…18_Sept_Kitchen_Food_and_Xmas-2318_Sept_Chewton_Heritage_Menu-2018_Nov_Calcot_Collection_Calcot-96Every season has its stars in terms of produce. But there is something about Autumn with rich reds and oranges of beetroot, apples that are just asking to be scrumped and blackberries full of juice and flavour. Visually I am spoilt this time of the year.

18_Nov_Cadogan_Gardens_Festive-11Couldn’t leave you without a couple of festive shots. Hans Bar and Grill in Chelsea know a thing or two about mixing cocktails. If you want to spoil yourself you could do a lot worse than a stroll down the uber-trendy Pavilion Road off Sloane Square and pop in a for a lesson in Mixology.

18_Nov_Bournemouth_Tourism_Xmas_Trees-23The Christmas Tree Wonderland in Bournemouth doesn’t disappoint. There are the most stunning neon Christmas Trees throughout the lower gardens and down towards the beach. Put on a scarf and hat and amble towards the Christmas market and the smell of mulled wine and mice pies.

Lynk – Mad as a March Hare!

Chewton_July-75

FullSizeRender.jpg

Some days at work are solid gold! There is nothing like the feeling of seeing a piece of your work somewhere that you have aspired to reach for many years. It’s a genuine ‘moment’ in time and I was lucky enough to achieve this recently when not only was one of my images from a shoot I did at The Chewton Glen used in House & Garden, I WAS ALSO CREDITED! A real career high…

It seems everyone is refreshing their look, upgrading marketing and press collateral as well as launching new campaigns and ventures as the lighter days come into play. It’s exciting to see these changes taking place with vim and vigor.

Over the last month I have been lucky enough to shoot the legend that is Harry Redknapp more than once. As someone I knew throughout my childhood years this has been an absolute joy. Harry is always immaculate and hugely accommodating when I am pointing my lens at him and this most recent image is being used for a national campaign that will be released shortly.

17_Mar_Harry_Redknapp_Headshots-10 bw

‘Remind me one day to share with you the trip we had to this shoot with Harry!

I visited the International Confex 2017 exhibition at Olympia at the beginning of the month to capture the highly respected hotels consultant and presenter of the Channel 5 series The Hotel Inspector, Alex Polizzi on behalf of the Grand Harbour Hotel. As keynote speakers go, there is no-one better positioned to offer the hotel industry practical advice in the present climate.

IMG_5583

It has to be said that Alex is one of the most striking looking people I have ever met and holds herself with such grace and poise, and is utterly exquisite.

As we march towards the end of the month (I try!) I am seeing a rise in interest from media groups and agencies which is all very exciting. Lets see what spring yields!

Random location?       Random location. In a field with a white board.

Most valuable lesson learnt?     Sometimes I am lucky enough to involved in some incredible projects. Remember to realise this.

And finally….    People will join you along the way. Some will stay and some will leave. But remember it’s your journey.

Schools out and its back to baubles for me…

In the words of the inimitable Alice Cooper ‘School’s Out!’ Amongst the joy, excitement and enviable optimism that summer is just around the corner there have been heartfelt tears (some of them mine) as the summer term at Walhampton draws to a close and the leavers bid the school farewell.

16 May Scholars 1 sm

I have put together a 13 minute film  Walhampton Founders Day Film 2016 hit the link to view that captures the essence of the school, teachers, day pupils and the boarders. I am extremely proud of this piece of work and hope to be allowed a quiet fist pump in the style of Andy Murray by the back office.

What next I hear you cry? Well for the rest of July and into August I am going to be up to my baubles (too racy?) in Festive shoots. Yes, that’s right we are back to the infamous #christmasinjuly and luckily it looks like the weather has opted to join me. Joke!Hall 1Hall 1Detail 1

This year I have bookings from July to September predominantly with hotels, also stylists, house builders and product designers. I’m always excited to see what the season’s trends are and what the palettes are going to be like to capture through a lens.

While some clients favour ‘opulence’ and go all out to pile on the rich deep colours everywhere, others take the Nordic approach, which is neutral, clean and in recent years has featured stars in all shapes and sizes.

There is something magical about turning up on the school run with glitter in your hair and over your glasses, especially when it’s the last day of the summer term!

This year I will not eat a single mince pie… This year I will not eat a single mince pie…This year I will not eat a single mince pie – repeat as necessary!

Lynk – life through a lens in 2016!

At the risk of sounding a bit 80s, (a golden era even if I say so myself) a lot of my life is spent looking through a lens and I am thrilled with my new Zeiss lenses, made with the highest quality glass in the world, and they will help me produce images of extreme clarity.

zeiss_2096_561_milvus_1_4_85_ze_lens_1185205

While I was in the ‘shopping zone’ at The Photography Show at the NEC last week I also managed to source some of the Pro Video equipment I have been after for a while which includes an ice white constant lighting system for video and still imagery, a playback monitor and pro-gimbals. There was also a cheeky purchase of Pro lapel and boom microphones for higher quality audio capturing as we have some video and audio contracts to deliver later this year.

It’s at this stage that Mrs L glazed over!

The last few weeks have seem me darting to and from Cliveden House in Berkshire working with Andre Garrett on his latest creations, in and out of Walhampton School to capture World Book Day, the school play a 14 school X-country championship event, to an evening function at the Law Society, not to mention a night shoot in the Chewton Glen Spa.

I have also been lucky enough to get out and take pictures of some stunning sunrises and sunsets for my Lynk Landscape portfolio. For me, there is nowhere else where I could be treated to such magnificent scenery and colour.

Glancing ahead to the next few months, I am looking forward to sticking my bright and shiny lenses into some new contracts and continuing my march along the learning curve.

Spring into err…. Spring!!!

I may not have hit the gym like the rest of the nation during the opening weeks of 2106, but I have definitely hit the ground running! And while the international kale mountain was being diminished by the masses, I was surrounded by sensational chef glitterati!

I kid you not. I was blessed to have the opportunity to meet and film Luke Matthews, Pierre Chevillard, James Martin, Jean-Christophe Novelli all in the name of work having been commissioned to make the Chewton Glen 50th Anniversary celebration video. I might just throw in Robin Hutson, Martin and Brigitte Skan, Peter Crome, Andrew Stembridge, oh and Sir Ben Ainslie. And did I mention Jody Scheckter?

Jody Schectker fx sm

As you may be aware, I love a landscape and being based in Milford on Sea I have access to both coast and country vistas. Sales of this work have rocketed recently so I have launched a separate site – lynklandscapes.com where all my latest pieces are available to purchase.

16_Feb_Barton_Sunset-3 sm

With my corporate hat on, I have been working with a lot of clients who are busy refreshing their websites and social media platforms and have required ‘head shots’. To some this may sound like small fry, but never underestimate the power of a good clean set of images displaying your highly qualified and results driven team.

16_Jan_Rawlinson-56

Time is March’ing on (see what I did there?) and next month will be a lot about hotels, business leaders in action, food imagery and a substantial amount of interior property shots for a new client.

16_Jan_D2PM_Hermitage-17i

In the meantime, I have been ‘instructed’ to join the exercise bandwagon and so having escaped the gym in January, I am now plodding, like a slow plodding thing, my way from my extremely comfy couch to 5 very hot and sweaty K. I’ll leave you with that thought 🙂fat

Comedians, Calendars and Christmas

At home I am indulging my girls with advent calendars, the Christmas tree and decorations are up and there is a lot of what we affectionately refer to as ‘Santa chat’ during the school run.

Reception 1

At work, I am packaging and posting the exclusive Pre A Porsche 356 Calendars to send all over Europe, the United States and as far afield as Australia, while considering how to lay up and frame the Easter shoots I have booked in for the next week or two and again directly after the New Year celebrations.

A3_Porsche356Cal2016_24Sept15-1web

Talking of celebrations, I was privileged to be joining the 50th Anniversary event at the Chewton Glen last week.  They have produced a magnificent book detailing the rise and rise of the hotel over the last 50 years and it just happens to include a fair few of my images. I have been grinning like a Cheshire cat since my first glance at it! I had my camera with me on the night with a view to being included in the 75th anniversary edition.

_8101218

It seems odd, with the weather being so un-seasonally warm, to be in the process of compiling a list of which clients require ‘snow’ shots (it’s a technical term!) should the temperature drop and a few flakes make it this far South. With several requests for independent business calendars for January 2017 already in, these images will be imperative for inclusion. Photography tends to make you think a couple of months in advance, a skill set I am yet to master at home much to the disappointment of Mrs L.

After thousands of views of the ‘behind the scenes at Cliveden’ video (insert link) I produced in October, demand is high and I have to concede that this is a piece of work I am particularly proud of, and I am already excited about the contracts I have for 2016 in this genre.

Cliveden_15_Nov-28Cliveden_15_Nov-12

Two weeks ago I was with an old friend, the comedian and satirist, Henning Wehn in London shooting for his new tour poster. Much as I love working with Henning, it is always something of a relief to capture the right image so that I can fully engage with his ingenious wit and humour rather than trying to stay focused. And people think I’m distracted!
